Pixel Watch 2 - Everything You Need to Know

The Google Pixel Watch 2 is almost here, and we’re diving into its colors, bands, design, and size.

One of the standout features of the original Pixel Watch was its aesthetics, and it received well-deserved praise. Now, with the Pixel Watch 2, we expect more of the same visual appeal. The teasers and leaks have given us a glimpse of what to expect, and it’s safe to say that the in-person experience is even better. Google’s upcoming watch is set to closely resemble the previous  watches by Google, building on their winning design.

However, we’ve got one bit of news that might be a bit of a letdown for some – the bezels are making a return, and they’re just as thick as before.

On the bright side, the display has received an upgrade with a new panel from Samsung Display. It’ll still feature a 1.2-inch round OLED with a resolution of 384 x 384.

Now, let’s talk size. Google seems to be sticking with what works, as we anticipate that the Pixel Watch 2 will once again come in just one size, a 41mm dial. While a larger option could have been a welcome addition for those with bigger wrists, it looks like we’ll have to wait for that in future iterations.

The Pixel Watch 2 will run on Wear OS 4, promising numerous improvements, including dynamic theming support. Notably, it’ll also offer seamless updates, a first for smartwatches. Expect to see the return of customizable tiles, integrated Fitbit apps, and robust third-party app support.

Pixel Watch 2 Faces

Watch Faces:

Google plans to introduce four new watch faces to the library. One of them is called “accessible,” sporting a minimalist style with no unnecessary frills. There are four accessible variants:

  1. Circular – single-line digital time above a circular complication slot
  2. Linear – single-line digital time with the date above it
  3. Stacked time – stacked digital time (hours above minutes) with a single compilation slot to the side
  4. Just time – a simple stacked digital time.

The second new watch face is “Arc,” offering high levels of customization. You can choose from various indices, control how many complications and elements are displayed, and even toggle the second hand on or off.

Within the Arc category, you’ll find six variants divided into three categories, each with two sub-variants. The categories are:

  1. Max – featuring four circular complication slots in the middle
  2. Minimal – displaying the date in the upper part of the face
  3. Numerals – with prominent numbers in the middle of the face

The sub-variants affect the complication slots outside the indices and are consistent across all three categories:

  1. Four – four flat complication slots in the corners
  2. Two – two flat complication slots on the bottom and top of the screen

Another watch face is the “Bold Digital” face, characterized by its eye-catching, overlapping font and vibrant color scheme that shifts between specific numbers. This watch face comes in just two variants: “Just Time” and “Radial.”

The next new addition is the “Analog Bold” face. Unlike the former, this one offers customization in an analog style. It features a bold hour hand and prominent numerals in various configurations. You’ll have several variants to choose from, some of which can accommodate up to four complication slots.

Pixel Watch 2 Theme:

Google is stepping up the game by introducing dynamic theming to the Pixel Watch 2. This nifty feature extracts colors from your active watch face and applies them throughout the watch’s user interface. It promises a visually cohesive and immersive experience.

Boot Animation:

We’ve also caught a glimpse of a charming retail animation that’s set to play on demo units. While it may not spill the beans on specific features, it’s a delightful addition to the watch’s Material design.

Color Choices:

While we might find hints about color options from the leaked watch faces, it’s likely that Google will offer no more than four choices, with one exclusive tied to purchases made via the Google Store.
